Bad ignition Switch?

2001 21 ft Mariah with Merc 5.7. Been doing great, pulled up to cove to swim, turned off key and no change. Switch will engage starter but will not kill power to engine or dash no mater what position it is in. Used kill switch for engine and main perco switch to save batteries, going to look at it now . suspect ignition switch. Any suggestions

To verify if it is the switch, disconnect the purple wire from the ign switch and see if the power is off the instruments and engine.

The backside of the dash on this boat is not the most accessible, so when I powered up the system this am and all functioned correctly I decided to wait until it happens again, I can get around it without much effort. Don thanks for the advice and I now know where to start when it happens again.
