bad fuel pump?

I've been having trouble with my 83 Johnson 140 idling poorly. I just checked the fuel pump, and it doesn't seem to be pumping very much fuel. The pump is new, but how muck fuel should it pump? Also, the opening in the block that the "pulse" comes from is threaded on my engine. Is there supposed to be a fitting that goes into the back of the fule pump, or is it just the 3/16" gasket that seals the port to the pump? The pump is an OMC pump, so I know its good quality. Any help would be appreciated......

While the motor is idleing(and running poorly),squeeze the primer bulb on the fuel line and see what happens.Does the bulb remain firm while its running? Is the primer bulb/fuel line in good shape?

The engine rpm's level out and the engine runs pretty smooth when the primer bulb is squeezed. The bulb and line is new, and the bulb stays firm when running.
