Bad Fuel Guage

When you turn on the key, the fuel gauge jumps to full. Which I know is not true. I bought a new fuel gauge sending unit(240-33 ohms). I dry tested it to see if it was the fix. When I turn the key on, it still jumps to full. But, as I lift the float, the gauge appears to be trying to go up(even though it is already at full). Does this mean not enough resistance in the sending unit, bad gauge, or something else?

Thanks

welcome aboard

check the wiring, specifically check the pink wire to see if its shorted to ground.

Remove the sender wire from the fuel gauge and the oil pressure gauge. Connect the fuel sender wire to the oil pressure gauge to see if it moves to about the same angle

Hi. Is the sender ladder set to the right size for the tank ?
probably not your issue, but I know that lots of us European guys with US boats also get caught out with the wrong sender. European boats are the opposite range of resistance to US boats. But from memory us boats are 240-30. European are almost the opposite with something like 0-190 I think.
Sounds like your issue is probably calibration of the sender length though.

Could check the net for your gauge and model to see what sender it takes to verify a 240 (empty)-33(full) resistance sweep will work. Could be both sender and gauge are working find, just mismatched. JMHO
