Bad/Broken kill switch wire from coil. Can it be replaced?

Hi all. So I was working on my '61 QD-22 10 hp today, but she juts wasn't running right. I was going to install a universal lanyard kill switch when I noticed that one of the black wires coming from the coils to the factory kill switch was stiff and nearly broken, which I believe is causing the motor to run on only one cylinder. The other wire is intact, but also a little stiff. Is there any way to replace the kill switch wires from the coils, or do I have to replace the coils themselves? Here's a pic. I hope it helps. Thanks.

IF I remember correctly, the kill wires just go to each set of points. When you push the kill button, it just completes the circuit and shorts one point to the other, thus killing the spark. SO yes, you can EASILY replace the wires.
GOod luck,

From your picture....a simple solder would be the route to your wiring. Replace the existing wires with two conductor wire , and replace the green oxidation section.

Thanks jbjennings. that makes way more sense! i couldn't think what wire would be going from the coil to the switch anyway as all the coil and condenser wires connnect to the points, but one wire from each set of points to the kill switch makes perfect sense. My brain must've stopped working. I'll take the flywheel of tomorrow and follow the wires backward from the kill switch to the points and replace them while I'm installing the new kill switch. Hmm....... might as well replace the s'plug wires while I'm at it too, I suppose. Maybe then this little motor will finally be good to go. It's already had a new tune up kit, impller, LU seals and carb kit (what's left?). Thanks again. I'll try to remember to post an update.

P.S.
Anyone happen to know the gauge replacemnt wire i should get?

Make sure you get 'solid conductor' wires, not radio supressor types available now....
Make sure the size is 7mm , you should be good to go.

Re: Bad/Broken kill switch wire from coil. Can it be replaced?

Thanks for the input everyody. So I went and got 30 ft. of 14 gauge wire to replace my old, black kill switch wires in the photo. It worked great and was easier than I thought. I installed an emergency kill switch while I was at it. However, there was one strange thing. When I hooked the new dead man's switch I ran wires from the points to the "M" terminals on the switch (b/c I have a magneto ignition). Howevr, the motor would not start with the lanyard in place. When I removed the lanyard, she would start with ease; backwards from what it should be, right? I then switched the wires and put them on the "C" terminals and the switch worked perfectly. When I pull the lanyard and the motor dies and/or I can push the red button while the lanyard is still in place and shut off the motor. Why does the switch work backwards when it is hooked up "correctly" on the "M" terminals, but work correctly when hooked up "bakwards" on the "C" terminals? Either way it works great now, I'm just kind of curious.
I'm gonna switch the s'plug wires too per Xcuseme's suggestion. I just wanted to do one electrical job at a time. It's not my specialty, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Thanks everybody.

Hmmm, Are you implying that you have a remote start switch with electric start? On a QD? They didn't make electric start on any QD's. Or are you just using the remote switch to start and stop the ignition? Which seems odd. Make sure you got the correct lanyard type switch. It should be normally open and then then electrically close when the lanyard is pulled. connect to the M terminals on the ignition switch is the correct location.

Re: Bad/Broken kill switch wire from coil. Can it be replaced?

HI Samo. No electric start or anything. Just a good 'ol fashioned pull start 10 hp QD-22. I got it all figured out (finally). Although, I'm still a bit confused why I needed to hook up my kill switch on the "C" (coil) terminals rather than the "M" (magneto) terminals :/ When I hooked up the kill wires to the M terminals, everything was exactly backwards (i.e. ran with lanyard out, dead with lanyard in), but when I hooked the kill wires up to the "C" terminals it work(s) perfectly(i.e. motor dies when lanyard pulled and/or when red button is pushed). Anyone know why it seems backwards? I've found some other posts where people had similar problems and they atributed it to slight differences in terminology. Somehow C = "coil magneto", or something. I'm mostly just curious. I'm not the greatest at electrical, so I'm a bit confused by the seemingly backwards wiring. Anyway, all's well that ends well. Motor runs like a champ and the kill switch works perfectly. I highly reccomend them. It was super simple to install once I got the wiring figured out. I feel much better about going out on the water alone and it looks cool too :) Thanks again for all the help everyone.
