Backing up seems like brakes on

Have a dual axle Ranger Trailer. I just got it so I am not sure of it. When I back it up it seemed like the brakes were on. Then I found a button on the tongue to press that s\read something like press and turn. I pressed it and turned it just a spec and I was able to back up withoput the brakes on. Am I imagining this or is that button really release the trailer brakes.

if you have surge brakes. I'd guess you do. than you need to overide the brakes to back up otherwise the backing activates the brakes. most of the overides will reset when you pull forward but you might want to check yours out.
