Back up camera on trailer

I was looking at purchasing a backup camera system for my truck and trailer. Either a wireless kit with 2 cameras or a wired kit with 2 cameras. Any one have a camera mounted to their trailer? Something like this I would either mount on the transom of the boat or the on the trailer. These things are waterproof wanted to know if anyone has installed the same and wanted to get your feedback. Sometimes I have to back my trailer in from a long spot and I have a mid size explorer pulling a 24ft boat. Its hard to see with my small door mirrors.

buddy of mine did one of those $50 license plate mounted cameras with a custom connector at the trailer hitch and the little display that strapped to the rear view mirror. it lasted about 3 years.

he is now looking at one of the bluetooth cameras and using it only when he needs it.

I have one of those now. Hooked to the plate its great for lining up the hitch. Man before the camera I would have to back about 10 times to get lined up with the rear hatch open.
I was curious if anyone hooked up one to the rear of the trailer and took the camera under water how long did it last. My problem is backing long distance between some cars at times to get my boat back it my spot. I am getting tired of getting out every 5 feet I move to see. They offer split screens with the 2 cameras.

Might be a good idea to try and mount them to the guide post some how even thought the cameras are waterproof.

Why not just get a set of clamp on mirrors to use at the launch ramp?

Thanks but I dont need it at the launch ramp, I am good with that. Its where I park my boat. Its a parking lot with a auto shop in the middle of it and sometimes customers drop of cars and I have to back the boat through to my space from the street if I can not pull in then back up to the space. Usually I need to pull in front of the shop and back to the space. If they leave cars there then I can not pull in then back down. The only option is to back in from the street or call the guy and wait for him to come down and move some cars.

That makes scene now maybe mount it high on your transom might work good for you and keep it dry.

This is the back up nightmare I have to deal with after bringing my boat back to my parking spot. The first time I pulled in and could not clear the truck for the turn. There are cars behind the camera along a fence.
I finally backed in all the way in from the street and made this turn. This is why I wanted a camera so I dont have to keep getting out of the car to see if I am cleared.

Hello I'm agree with you, really I need a camera so I don't have to keep getting out of the car to see if I am cleared. Cause bringing boat at parking spot using camera it's terrible, better do it using your eyes)

My suggestion would be to buy a GoPro with Bluetooth. You glue a quick disconnect GoPro mounts onto the trailer. Attach the GoPro when trailering. Then use your cell phone camera to view (a Tablet would be even better). Then when you're done, remove the GoPro and use it for whatever other things you use GoPros for. Key here would be finding and gluing a good quick connect that would work. You don't want to be losing GoPros. Ask me how I know. I'd suggest epoxy or 3M 5200 at a minimum.

I believe GoPros have had bluetooth for a while so you can buy an older used one fairly cheap on Craigslist.

I have the magnetic eyeball camera that is used on the hitch. I needed it for backing into my narrow driveway from my narrow street. What I did was mount a metal plate above my garage door and when I get back from pulling out the boat I stick the camera there. Then I can see the driveway from inside the tow vehicle when backing in. Next I want to rig up some type of mount for the transom on the boat for backing down the ramp.

What a great idea. Will the Bluetooth signal extend the length of the trailer?

This is all changing right now And theres been some big improvements I’m looking into cameras for my boat travel trailer and tow trucks. I suggest you call crutchfield and see what they have for you that will work with a radio you like if your rig doesn’t have a back up camera display already And replace your radio to work with the right system for you.
if you do have camera display the Rv travel trailer forums are full of options from many question. I have not purchased any yet but I’ve been researching them and there are some that do t work as well as others. I’m looking at a large purchase so I’m trying to get all the info I can first And then buy the same gear for all units.
