I spoke to the previous owner again today. He said the engine was replace with a long block by a reputable dealer here on LI. So I think the engine should be put together correctly (I hope). I tried to contact him today but had no luck.

I greased the u-joints and gimbal bearing/housing and reinstalled the O/D tonight.

I syphoned the oil out of the pan.

I am really pulling at straws here but, what if I have a few sticky lifters? I was given 25w-40 oil by the Mercruiser dealer. I was thinking of using a lighter oil and maybe a qt or 2 of Marvel Mystery oil to maybe free-up any sticky components.

I also heard that the Edelbrock carbs like to have a 1" spacer installed under the carb.

Any other ideas? It won't be easy to check the cam......would have to remove quite a bit of stuff just to remove the valve covers.

Re: Back to Square One

In all the posts you have been given every possible reason for it to be bad.
The problem I see is that you are overlooking something that would be obvious to a good tech. But with the proper troubleshooting techniques, your problem can be found. Hit and miss, try this then that rebuild this, try this part someone gave me, do this do that. Replace this and that........ No wonder it still doesn't work.
NO BODY on this forum can see what you are doing during the testing. You may be doing a test wrong, but we have to assume you are doing it right.
Like tommays says, you need to give that boat to a real tech tell him what you have done, and walk away and let him work.

I second Don's suggestion. This may turn out to something relatively simple that a good tech will spot quickly. The hard part will be finding a good tech .
