My mother was due to have her 3rd child the 6th. So my little brother or sister will be born any day now. If it is a girl we have a name. As of right now the boys name is "Sean" we think its ok but I still think we can do better. I wanted to name him after D-i-c-k Fisher but its not going to happen :)

So I'm asking you fellow water lovers what are some of your favorite first names?

Thanks,
11

Re: Baby names

Ahoy, 11.

In my family we usually name our children after favorite ancestors or famous people. My long name includes ancestors or relatives from as far back as the 18th century.

You might look at the names of grandfathers and great grandfathers, or great heros.

Good luck. :)

Re: Baby names

Can't offer much on the way of names, but I can give you are good piece of advice what NOT to name him/her.

My brother and I practically have identical names, and our SS #'s are only 5 digits apart.
It's been a literal nightmare when it comes to our credit ratings.

DON'T name your child the same or similar as the parents or a sibling.
If you think the credit agencies won't mix you up even though there is an age difference (and probably a large SS# difference) THINK AGAIN.

Trust me...They'll screw it up. They've been doing it to me for over 15 years.
And not because of my brother either. They mixed me with my parents and my brothers Ex-Wife!

Yup. The credit reporting agencies sure are accurate. NOT! Wish I had a dollar for every argument I've had with them.

Congrats on the baby!

H.

Re: Baby names

I like traditional names with a family name worked in as possible. The kid is going to have to make it through school and make a living later, so I don't care for people who saddle them with a " cute or meaningful " name. I know some people named Monk who actually named their kid "Chip". Poor kid.

Oh yeah. Watch the initials, too. I work with a lady whose initials are PMS.

Actually, that was the first joke played on our kid. His name is Max. His initials spell MAD. It actually just kind've turned out that way. In a few years, he may be old enough to watch the series.

Re: Baby names

We named our first Kyle which was not after anyone on either side of the family. He carries my given name, Edwards, as middle name. ANYWAY, your parents may do what we did when we named him . We thought we had it picked out and everything was planned if it was a girl or boy cause we didn't want to know before hand. When the doctor handed him to me and I laid him on his mothers chest we looked at one another and new the names we picked weren't right. We picked Kyle out of the air and it was the right thing to do. OH! ! BTW....his nickname is Swamptater.

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/obie_splyvyn

Re: Baby names

I restored that old tractor and gave to my dad for his 80th birthday. He's 85 now....He went to Lousiville,MS and pruchased it for his dad when he was 19. It sat in the pasture of pop's old home place for years. I played on it when I was a kid and it was a rusty old tractor sitting under a pine tree. We have driven the tractor in a few antique shows and even used it in a antique tractor pull. I also restored an old sawmill that they used when the tractor was new and i've used it to make cedar, oak, pine...really just what ever type lumber I can find a log in. I've put rubber tires on it and have used it to pull floats in parades and such as that. As a matter of fact the tractor was running when that picture was made. Did ya notice the hand crank sticking out the front of the tractor????

Rusty??? You talking about Rubberhead Wallace??

Re: Baby names

 Nothing wrong with Rusty. Its just that I'm a DEI fan. I just remember Rusty sticking his head up in one of Earnhardt Sr. interviews one time and Earnhardt grabbed him around the head and told him to "Aw, Go on Rubberhead." I thought it was pretty funny.

Re: Baby names

I pull for the Petty's.

A psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with four young
mothers and their small children... "You all have obsessions," he observed.

To the first mother, Mary, he said, "You are obsessed with eating. You've
even named your daughter Candy."

He turned to the second Mom, Ann: "Your obsession is with money. Again, it
manifests itself in your child's name, Penny."

He turns to the third Mom, Joyce: "Your obsession is alcohol. This too
manifests itself in your child's name, Brandy."

At this point, the fourth mother, Kathy, gets up, takes her little boy by
the hand and whispers. "Come on, short name for Richard, we're leaving."

If you want to really name that boy right, First Honor the Lord and use a good old biblical sailor name--- NOAH.... He will love you for it....

Re: Baby names

Yah gotta watch who picks the names. A fellow was overseas for 18 months and missed his twins birth, when he returned home he asked who picked out the names for his son and daughter, the wife answered, "your brother", now the guy knew his brother wasn't the brightest bulb in the box and asked what names did he pick" the wife said, well he named your daughter Deniese, the guy figured that wasnt't bad and inquired about his sons name, she answered, DaNephew.

Re: Baby names

We're picking names now too, baby's due on the 24th. We've got Joseph (Joey/Joe)... kind of religious but my nephew picked it and we all like it, it means increasing god and Goldie (after my grandma) meaning made of gold... our little treasure... seems to fit. Good luck.

If ya' get stuck, try
http://www.babynames.com/V5/index.php?content=search_adv.php
I noticed the Scandinavian names are quite 'manly'.
