B3 Prop Indexing???

Just wondering why it is necessary to index (180 deg out of phase) the props on a Bravo3 and what it accomplishes. People say it get better performance, but as the blades line up front to rear several times during rotation I don't see how it would make a difference.

Some people say you want to index them so that they don't cross at 12:00. I understand that it doesn't make a difference.

The Merc service manual says it's required for the BravoIII Blackhawk.


It probably doesn't hurt for other Bravo III's

I believe the concern is that you don't want the props to aligning under the anti-cavitation plate.
