Hi all,<br /> Over the weekend, I bit the bullet and bought my first boat (1980 16' Galaxy bowrider). I wanted a bit of a project boat (mainly for the pride of knowing I restored it myself) anf found on ein Atlanta. I can do all of the glass work mysef, paint it, and replace the floor, but the transom is a concern for me. My transom is "ok" for now, but it will need replacing before the boat sees a lot of water time. What is the average cost to replace the transom? Is there any boat addicts in south Ga that could give me some advice on my "project"?

Re: average transom replacement cost

I'm more a fishing nut than a boat nut but I can tell you what it cost me on my 17' bass bomber. 1000 dollars. 900 if I took the motor off myself. I told him I would think about it. I drove half way home thinking spring time fishing time-no boat. I turned around and took it back to him. He did a good job and had it ready in less than the 2 weeks he had promised. Even though it cost nearly what the boat was worth to fix it I feel like he earned his money. I'd be intrested to see what others have paid for the same job. Smitty has a reputation for being honest and doing good work. GOod luck on the project I'd like to see some pictures posted.

Do a search in the Boat Restoration and Building forum here. There have been a lot of people do this.
