I'm after an aux motor for my 15foot fiberglass boat. The boat is a 79 model and probably weighs between 300-350kg I think. I'd be buying a secondhand two stroke 10-20 years old as I can't afford a new one.

This boat is primarily used in "non tidal" seas and waves to 0.5 to 1.5 meters out in the sea maximum. Don't go more than 10km's out.

I have heard that it is best to buy a motor with the lowest HP possible as they are lighter and still do the job of getting you back to shore.

Also, I've already got an adjustable bracket bolted to the back of my transom. Main engine is a 55HP.

Suggestions please.

JohnM
I would probably go for a 15 HP. 9.9 and 15 wieght the same and the 15 I have seen use same props and idle down to same speed as the 9.9. I for sure would not go below 8HP.
