I have a 1988 party hut 28'. I am planning to spend a week at a time camping on the boat. I am installing a microwave and blender (wife's needs, not mine) and am going to put a small, quiet honda generator on the boat.

Any suggestions as to where would be a good place to run it without causing a lot of issues? Its only 52db at full power and weighs 51 pounds. Its costs about a grand but portable so it won't stay on the boat when we're not out.

I'm open for ideas....Thanks

Places I shouldn't put it????

If you're going to run it, make sure it is down wind from you guys. Can you put it above, on the hardtop ?

I have a small honda generator, I bult a platform to raise it up. Mostly used in lighted boat parades, getting it wet will ruin it. For occasional use I like to put it on the beach myself. It depends on where you boat.

Not really an answer to the Gents question is it? He will be out for a week at a time. The genset is a great idea, quiet and provides unlimited power at night if needed as well as battery charing capability if needed.

new Honda quiet gens are great. Would probably mount the gen near the outboard overnight and store in underwear for travel. Exhaust should not be a problem if mounted at rear of the boat .all wind should run from bow to stern when at anchor.

Re: Aux Onboard Generator Location???

We camp out all the time on our toon - it is freakn awesome - we just love it. As for a generator, I have a McCullough 4S 2000w Inverter, same as the Honda 2000i. Units are small and portable, still heavy, but portable compared to the ones with wheels. They are quiet, but not really quiet and depending on where you are - like a secluded cove - the sound will echo off the walls, so we use it sparingly. If you are on a sandy beach, you could run the generator off the beach and run a extension cable to the toon.

So with the the generator all worked out, I decided that was a good backup plan, but wanted something a little simpler so I decided to run a dual battery system on the toon with a 3000watt inverter (12v to 110v) to run a coffee machine, and other electronics. I used a A/B/All battery switch and would only use 1 (B) battery for running the electronics and 1 (A) was solely for starting the OB. When the battery (B) was running low, I would run the OB (45amps at 1.5K rpms) for a little while to recharge or while we are trolling for fish.

Depending on how long we are going camping, I will take the generator, but if it is just a short day or two overnight, the Dual Battery with the inverter works well for us.

Have a GREAT TIME !
