I have a 20' Fiberglass bassboat. My Motorguide 60# trolling motor is on it's last leg. Am looking into replacing it and am interested in autopilot. I am not coordinated enough to control and fish at the same time. Anyone have any recommendations? I understand Motorguide has the Pinpoint and Minkota also has an autopilot. What is best and what can I expect to pay for it? My dad suggests the Pinpoint.

Thanks!
Mike

My favorite guide uses a Pinpoint and really likes it. It was just too expensive for me.

I have used 2 Autopilot Minn Kotas and really liked them.

The Pinpoint will follow a contour, which is great for fishing down, but I cast to shorelines and structure so the AP does just fine for me.

Good luck. :)

I had an Autopilot, a nd liked it too. My wqife ran it on the front of the boat, and I used a tiller transom motor on the rear.

Now matter which way the wind was blowing, we could both control our end of the boat, and she did not have to change her settings, since the Autopilot automatically corrected for my movements of the rear of the boat.

Re: Autopilot Trolling Motors

I just bought a new Autopilot for my boat(65lbs thrust, 60" shaft) in the Riptide model(saltwater version). I bought mine at cableas for 779 and it had no shipping charges.

I have never used the pinpoint but the autopilot works great for my type of fishing, freshwater stripers.

In fact I was at a striper tournament weigh in this weekend and of the 40-50 boats there ALL had Autopilots.

We do a lot of freelines and planer boards and the autoplots work great for this. You just get set up in the direction you want to go and sit back and fish like GOD intended, feet propped up and arms crossed. You just make slight corrections for the area you are fishing and the autopilot does the rest as far as current, wind and etc
