Hello all,

I am troubleshooting a possible fuel problem, hard to start once started rough idle and dies when given throttle.

-checked fuel filter it was good, changed out anyways

looking to test the auto by start, it has 2 yellow wires that go to connectors. 1 had a single connector to another yellow wire the other 1 has a double wire connector with a yellow and a black wire.

Am I correct in assuming the black wire is ground and I need to apply 12v to the single yellow wire to test the auto by start?

When was the last time the carb was disassembled and cleaned? The ABS is very reliable, I have never needed to change one... but if you pull it out and apply 12vdc to the leads, it should warm and the needle should extend.

Thank you Paul, I will be removing the carb and cleaning it once the gaskets and carb kit come in, but when I test the ABS by placing 1 wire on the pos. and 1 wire on neg posts of a battery nothing happens. It appears that the pin assembly is already extended because I can push it back against the spring.

Does the ABS get warm at all? If not you are the 1 in a zillion who needs a new one. It works by heating a wax capsule, which expands and pushes the pin out. It is normal for the pin to "float" even when retracted.

Alrighty then, the ABS does work. so onto a good cleaning of the carb. Thanks Paul

There's a fuel passage in the bottom of the bowl. It is VERY hard to clean out because it takes a 90 degree turn in there. This feeds the cold start and idle circuits, so when it's plugged you get the same symptoms. Took me a while of soaking and trying to get a wire through there to get it clean. Once clean it runs great. There's another thread on here with some pictures in it. If I have time I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT:
Here is the thread that has a picture of the bowl and shows the passage I'm referring to
