I just launched my 2003 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI. I am getting an Audio Warning
that is not covered in my owners manual. The warning is two beeps every one
min. Oil press is good, engine temps good ( checked with a temp gun at thermostat housing.) Sterndrive Oil level is full. I am stumped. Any one out there have more info on this system. I know I can have a dealer hook me up to a computer to ID this fault, but I was hoping someone would have a list if beep codes to avoid a trip to a Mech. this time of year. thanks db

Re: Audio Warning System

This is a reply from another site, Still looking for more input!

The 2 beeps per minute can be generated by quite a few things. Some of the error conditions will limit the available power the engine produces. The 2 beeps/minute can be generated by: cam sensor open or shorted, engine cooling temperature circuit open or shorted, coil harness wire (EST) open or shorted, fuel injector open or shorted, IAC output, knock sensor, MAP sensor, MAT sensor, oil pressure circuit open or shorted, port/starboard exhaust manifold cooling temperature circuit open or shorted, sea pump circuit open or shorted, fuel pump relay, throttle position sensor circuit open or shorted, low 5 volt power supply as well as other errors.
Best suggestion for the 2 beeps per minute is to have the dealer/shop read out the error log to see what is generating the error condition. No need in ruining a good day out on the water and having to be towed back in.

I was getting ready to reply with similar informtation. Basically, the warning horn tells you the operator something is wrong, the dealers diagnostic tools and troubleshooting procedures determins exactly which item is causing the fault.
YOu can probably do the job, but you will need a scan tool. rinda sells them for $400 that will check everything, not just codes.

Re: Audio Warning System

It was the IAC vacuum motor! It overheated and melted. I think it was due to the IAC muffler being very dirty and clogged. IAC VAC. motor $100 -- IAC muffler $1.50. Check that IAC muffler!!
