We are moving to a new house soon and am thinking thru the audio.

Last one I did was here, 18 years ago. Yamaha 5 channel surround, hard wired in ceiling. It has a sub but bever really dialed that in, would like to.

Assuming that wireless technology has advanced appropriately I'd like to go that route as much as possible including speakers. There is power in the attic avail. TV output signal as well would be nice.

Of course I'll spend endless hours researching but if anyone can tell me ahead of time what I don't know that would be great.

The wireless stuff has come a long way. That being said I still prefer wired only because you aren't stuck in an eco system for speakers and equipment... if that makes sense.

The choices drop greatly once you go to a full wireless setup. And best of my knowledge there are still issues with dropouts. I just moved my 2.1 setup to my girls place... in the process I priced out what a comparable 5.1 setup would be. (Small space, nothing crazy needed) and let's just say that 2.1 better last damn near forever because I can't afford to build anything close to it with those prices.

No, 1979 ranch. The roofline design would make it a beach to pull new, possible but rather not if can avoid.

I have a four speaker Sonos 5 (WiFi) system upstairs. A full blown component (wired) system in the basement and a Bose Bluetooth system out at the pool.

My component stereo has the best sound, but the Sonos system isn’t far behind.

Pricey, but the Sonos offers the best sound with ease of portability. Can pick up and move them around the house as needed.

Spotify app supports/controls all three systems via Bluetooth
