Atwood Coupler Lever not RELEASING

I have an Atwood articulating Ball Hood that pivots to actuate the trailer brakes, I can't use lever to release the tang either on or off the ball!
I heard a pop backing up but looks like all the parts & linkage are in place.
Could a part that rides on another slipped by it?
I'm at a loss!
I've been trying to get it fixed for 6 weeks, after a coupe of weeks I found a fabricator & he just wanted to cut it off and weld a new one on, after over a month sitting at his place no work had been performed!
I went and got it today, I need some Help (only on shoulder works!)
If I knew what was wrong I could show/tell someone what to do!
I'm at my wits End! Help.

I've seen a couple that the po had the 1-7/8 ball, they had a 2" hitch. So they tightened the nut underneath to get it tight...Wrong!
Does not hurt to check of its to tight. But be very careful in doing so. To loose and...well,bad things happen.
Did you contact attwood? That would be my first thought.

I am confused!
Are you complaining that you can't Attach to the ball? Or you can't Detach from the ball? Or the brakes are not working?

Exactly what is the Atwood Actuator Model Number?
A picture would also help.

And Welcome to iboats!

Sometimes, especially when the trailer is backed and there is still pressure on the ball, the release lever can not be worked by hand. This happens a lot on my big trailer.

Put a large bar or lug wrench under the lever and using both hands pull up forcibly. That may do it, It usually does for me.

I have one of those on my Rinker trailer, that is if I understand you correctly (don't like it). When it messes up it is because the lever (up under) rod has flipped pass the pivot point. The way I fix it is to hold the hitch up with one hand, take a large screw driver in the other and push the rod up which will allow the ball coupler to move back to the rear. I can always tell when this happens because it's difficult for me the get the ball on the hitch without a lot of work. Mine is a 2-inch coupler.

That has happened to me with my Atwood coupler. Try chocking the wheels and pull forward slightly to relieve pressure on the coupler.
