WWWWWW is asking about fav lures. What is your favorite attractant scent??
Mine is Berkley Bass attractant. Tried Kicken Bass and various others but none seem to work as well for me.

Re: Attractant scent

I don't use scent too often, anymore. Tried some form of minnow and crawfish scents, a number of years ago. Didn't seem to increase the number of walleye or smallie hits. Today, if I use anything, it probably WD-40  And I probably only use it, when nothing else seems to work, which isn't a fair test either.

Re: Attractant scent

My feeling about scent is that you may be better off pouring it on your hands than on the bait. I wash my hands a lot when Im fishing and I do put a couple of drops on my hands afterwards, Crayfish scent. People stink to fish, men especially. I feel that fish are more repulsed by some scents more that they are attracted to others.

It greatly depends on the species of fish. Bass have a terrible sence of smell while catfish on the otherhand have an incredible sence of smell.

I like to use garlic-flavored spike-it on my soft plastics to color the tails - I think it really does help in some cases - but I can't say whether the scent adds to the attraction or just the color. For sure it cuts back on how many baits you have to carry since you can modify 'em on the water.

I think it's the oil makes the lure shinier and it does help soft plastics slide through weedy muck much better.
As far as the scent? I'll just reinforce an earlier answer. I think it masks the smell of people hands more than anything.

Some pros claim that the fish hang on longer with the initial bite.
Personally, I find a significant increase in bites. To avoid spillage in the boat, I apply it with the lure hanging outside the boat. I find that small bluegills come up to taste the spillage. YMMV.

I first using the spray can stuff (anise seed) when it first came out. It worked for me...at least for a while. I wonder if fish get wary of a scent if presented too much. Then again, what are the chances of that happening?

I use Kick-N-Bass. Garlic and Craw. It's oily stuff that tends to stay on longer. I pour a little in a tupperware bowl in the morning and just roll the soft plactics around in there when nedded.

When I called their number to order some, the owner actually answered the phone. Turns out he runs the whole operation. Heckuva nice guy, even gave me a few extra bottles to give to my friend who recommended him. :)

spots

Re: Attractant scent

I asked a fellow what was on those plastics he had in that ziplock bag once.
He said mostly garlic, but, I could see what looked like shaved salt. And it was oily.
I've heard of cod liver oil being good, so, I recently decided to experiment.
Went to Wallyworld and found "galic salt". Well, my initial thinking was this would save me from having to buy Garlic and Salt.
Got some ziplock bags and looked all over for Cod Liver Oil.
I had to ask where it was. This girl asked about 5 other employees and finally came back with "It's in the pharmacy".
What??
Anyway, I headed over there and sure enough, there she was, pointing at it with a big grin on here face.
I grabbed the bottle and...and...Those are Capsules??
Looked some and finally found liquid.

I'm pretty sure I took a wrong turn somewhere, but, I did try it with no noticalbe results other than having to sleep outside for a few days.

Always wondered about that grin though. Just wondered if I should have been embarassed as I was leaving the store?
Just what are cod liver oil pills used to cure anyway?

I like the yellow spike-it. I also dip the ends of my spinnerbait skirts in it. I fished a brush hog for about 2 hours Sunday in the same 100yd section. No bites...then I dipped it in the spike-it, then third cast, landed a 2 1/2lb, then another then another, caught a total of 7 in the same area after applying the scent. Whether they bit because it covered my human scent or they liked the garlic, I don't care, it put fish in the boat. It will be like everything else, will work until everyone and their momma starts using it...then the next fad will come out. Never-ending cycle.

I have found that a cheap can of "Pam" type cooking spray, such as garlic flavored works very well.

Oh get off it.Cod liver oil is vitamin A,D and E,and on top of that fish oil is an omega 3 oil which brings your cholesterol count down.Only problem is the taste, hence the capsules.
In northern europe it was to be found in every house with children and everybody had their spoon full each day!It kept the doctor away!
I remember a spoonful every day in winter.Extremely healthy. It seems to be very good against skin cancer
(In Norway wherever cod liver use went down, skin cancer went up).feed it to your dogs and cats and their hair will be shiny and thick and will not fall out.

Went fishing yesterday. I used Floating PowerBait dipped in Anise Oil. Best trout fishing I've had in a number of years.
