Hi, sorry for the late reply, haven't checked my messages lately.

Thermostat for your motor is a 143* thermostat.
Most of NAPA's marine parts are made by Sierra.
Sierra part number 18-3553.

The Mercury part number is F528068.

If you go to this link:

You can view a diagram.
You need the rubber grommet, thermostat, and a gasket. Parts 79, 80, and 81, in the diagram.

The grommet part number is 25-F84504 from Mercury, $5.

The gasket part number from Mercury is 27-828319.

Good Luck, and sorry for the late response.

hey roscoe, better late then never huh?;)

But really, I appreciate your help on this subject and all of you numerous other posts.

I wound up gettting the 143 thermostat and matching grommet from a local Force repair shop. However, I didnt get a new gasket. The one on the housing looked surprisingly good.

Fastforward a week to 5/6/07 and I got the boat in the water and ran it. It sounded like it was missing and running weak in the low rpm range (idle speed to about 1/4 throttle), but it ran like a champ at 3/4 throttle and WOT. I was actually impressed with the power and speed of my 17ft bayliner capri.

Now I have never heard or seen a Force in action before this one, so is the low RPM missing sound a clue into a timing issue, or is this the nature of the 85hp Force OB?

Any thoughts?
