Our local high school has a bass fishing team and my son wants to join it next year. So, being a dutiful dad, I certainly must get a bass boat so he can practice.. Right?
In my search I've come across a nice looking '86 Astroglass 175V with a '95 Johnson 130. I've had 3 different boats over the last 20 years and know my way around them pretty well. I know the usual suspects to check: stress cracks in transom, soft spots in the floor, and wiring in the hull. in the engine check compression, spark, and the lower unit plug for metal shavings.
Aside from those usual used boat items, what is the overall quality of Astroglass boats? I'm no stranger to complete boat restorations (I've done floors and transoms), but right now I don't have the time for a project boat. I'm trying to find something in good condition for a reasonable price that is basically a turnkey solution.
Are there typical problems with Astroglass that are significant enough that I should look the other way? Or are they a decent boat and I should just be looking for the usual older boat issues?
Thanks for your help.
