Hey I dont want to bash at all so keep that in mind. Trout season opened this past weekend. Im in a local river and there are so many rainbows you could walk across the river on them. Tied a lot of flies wax worms had a great day. As the day goes there are more and more yahoos walking across gravel beds stepping on eggs snagging fish with treble hooks etc.. just general ignorance towards the fish and the environment. I was wondering how often do you see these things and what do you do about it. It really burns my bridges when I see ignorant people doing this to fish

Re: ARROGENT PEOPLE

I tell you what I seen/done one time while bass fishing during spawn.

I was in the boat about a mile from the dock and was up a shallow creek throwing a bait around the trees and such when I looked on up in the creek arm a little and saw these two guys casting out and began ripping back real hard.

Ever once in awhile they would come out with a biggun, so I set and watched them for awhile and noticed that the bait they were throwing was very little from my vantage point, so I got a little closer and seen what they were doing.

They were throwing about a 5/0 or 6/0 treble hook at the bedding bass and snagging them.

This really p**sed me off and told them that if they could not catch them like true fishermen, then they should not fish at all, as I for one, do not call this fishing.

They were drinking I guess, for they started calling out names and such, so I broke out the 9' catfish rod with 50# big game line with 12" floater and 4/0 gamagutzi hook and started casting in their general area of interest.

When I would cross their line/s, I would just rare back and jerk bringing line hook and all with me.

I told them "sorry" and I would get them untangled, and then when I got the line/s to the boat, would just cut them and yeah out, "there you go".

Man was they pi**ed, but after about 3 times they got the idea.

They would fire up and move and I would follow then to their next spot and play out the whole thing agian.

Well after the third time they fired up and went to the ramp, loaded up and left with some more name calling and some guestures with their hands. :D

Might not stop all of them, but I did them two that day.

Can't stand someone snagging fish that are bedding trying to have more of the fish I go after.

Re: ARROGENT PEOPLE

My property in Northern MN. borders Chippewa reservation land where the native Americans are allowed to net. This wouldn't be so bad but many times the nets are not tended to for days which makes any catch useless. Walleye are the main source of these nets but I have seen Huge Northern, Muskies and other game fish killed by this destructive method. These gill nets are around 300$ and I have been known to cut them and send them to the bottom.

If I had got caught a stiff fine and possibly some jail time would have followed. Sometimes nets are strung across feeders that go into the main part of lake and they also do alot of damage.
90% percent of income in the summer comes from folks who go North to do fish and when this is gone many people will be very sad....oh well...

hey gonfishin,
that's really sad dude! might be tempted to do
the same. local Rez doesn't enforce any kinda
hunting season or lic. or rules... can go out
at night with a spotlight and a high powered rifle
and shoot as many deer as they want... also sad.
I do believe however that for the most part sportsmen
are more concerned about conservation/preservation
than the avg. Joe.
Milo:
try to explain to them in a nice way the consequenses
of their ignorant behaviour. bet they have no clue!
take Bubba with you just in case though ;)

my .02,
M.Y.

Re: ARROGENT PEOPLE

My Aunt and Uncle live on a quiet little stretch of the Rogue river in Eastern Michigan. I make arrangements with them to call me when the steelhead start running. When they called, I went over for the weekend to try a little flyfishing. I get up early Sat morning, still dark, and stake out a spot near a gravel bed. Starts to get light, make a few casts, and along comes a half dozen yahoos with nothing more than a giant net. Right in front of me, they start spooking fish toward the guy with the net who gets them and tosses them ashore. I told them that what they were doing was illegal and not sportsman like at all. They, ofcourse, told me to mind my own f'ing business. I went into the house and told my uncle I was going to call the DNR. He said don't bother. He had called them dozens of times and they always told him they didn't have enough guys to deal with it. Pretty sad.

Re: ARROGENT PEOPLE

Its the same for hunting to MY. They can pretty much hunt 365 days a year and can go on your property to hunt and there isn't nothing you can do and ifn you do they remember where you live.

Its a different rule you must live by where reservations are concerned. Now that the Casinos are going strong they are buying land up like their is no tommorrow. I guess never get even but get one better kinda fits here i guess.......

Dunno about up north but here in Florida all the rules are enforced RIGOROUSLY and patrols are common at least in my area by the FWC and they throw the whole book at you and make it stick....
