I grew up in Idaho and have lived in Arizona long enough that I should be good at fishing here. Need some help/ideas on locations and tackle for fishing and trolling. I like Lake Pleasant, Saguaro, and Canyon... but open to ideas. Never fished for bass before and new to trolling. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I'M IN ARIZONA TOO, AND ON THE CONTRARY, APACHE IS NOT DEAD. A LOT OF FISH HAVE BEEN CAUGHT AT APACHE AT NIGHT AS OF RECENT. TALK TO LEROY PRICE A GUIDE. I HAVE BEEN DOING GREAT ON CANYON, BUT NOT AT NIGHT AS USUAL. MY BEST HAS BEEN DURING THE DAY. MY WIFE AND I BOATED 28 YESTERDAY. ALL ON PLASTICS. BIGGEST AS OF LATE OUT OF CANYON IS 7.5 LBS. JH

Re: Arizona fishing

My son caught a 4" (yes, that's INCH) smallmouth bass, it was his first fish ! :D
Needless to say he was excited. He's 6 now and loves fishing, but as I have shown him there IS a difference between fishing and catching fish!

We went to Fools Hollow Lake just outside Showlow, Arizona. It was a nice weekend, and NO mosquitos.

Going to try some of your ideas in a week or two when I get my boat back from the mechanic.

Re: Arizona fishing

I also live in AZ. I always go to Pleasant. It is only 25 minutes away on a good day. Not too good at catching fish there, though. I go to Big Lake in the White Mts. and catch plenty of trout. Mainly Rainbows and a few Cuts. Trolling usually works with cowbells. If it is windy kill the motor and drift. Be careful though, the weather will change quickly in the summer. I have a 17 foot Lund (aluminum)with a 75 merc. and 8 kicker. Even in that baby I get a little wet sometimes. Remember there is a HP limit there. YB

Re: Arizona fishing

Good info. Not to sound toooo naive about trolling, but what are cowbells?

Also, going to Havasu in 2 weeks, should catch catfish at night and troll during the day :)

Re: Arizona fishing

Trolling with cow bells is used mainly to catch trout. You can go to any fishing store and get them (even Walmart). They are hard to explain but just ask someone. They might be called something else, I'm not sure. Here is a link so you know what they look like. Click Here
