I'm losing faith in my local shop.
I've got a vesuvio reman 5L GM block to swap for a baked 501DP volvo.

The reman company shipped the wrong intake manifold gasket with it. I finnally got sick of it and called the reman place. They said go buy a chevy 87 5L intake manifold gasket and I'll be fine.

So I did. But the new gasket I purchased has the two rear most casting ports blocked off.

Did I get the wrong gasket?

Any guidance greatly appreciated!

What should I be looking for for a volvo 501DP intake gasket?

Thanks,
Jim

yup, wrong gasket. You cant use any automotive gaskets from these years. All the cars and trucks were using the TBI injection and the manifold setup was different. I went to a local NAPA place that is right in the middle of a twon which is nearly 100% marine heaven. The only lake (besides Michigan) within 100 miles of Chicago. They had the manifold set cheap. Too bad I dont have the NAPA receipt with the NAPA part number. I would just get it from the OMC dealer. One last thought, I got a Performer series mainfold from Edelbrock for Rochester Quadrajet on my 88 sbc. It came with a gasket set that was correct. I bet Edelbrock sells the gasket set.

Thanks vatter41!

I have a local NAPA guy that's actually pretty good. I'll swing by there in the AM and see if he can hook me up with a gasket set.

Jim

Found the right gasket!

Now I just have to get the mechanic to put it in. He's not happy about not making a 4k new volvo block sale.

He also wants to replace the raw water pump at $300 bucks plus labor. The impeller is fine (new), and the pump seems to keeping the engine cool. He says the brass is 'worn'.

I'm inclined to leave the raw water alone... I've sunk too much into the new block already.

Jim
