Are We Unique???

Just wondering out loud. Are boater's/ fishermen/ watermen a unique bunch?

I've lurked on other forums mostly automotive cause that's what I do for a living.
The only forum I've seriously spent time on is this one, just wondering if we are unique to the forum world.

I'm sitting on my dock right now, their are identical docks as far as my eye can see, most have a boat tied up, some don't, all have at least one deck chair, some have mutiple chairs, each and every dock has the same identical privacy fence around it. I can hear my neighbors, some are laughing, some are crying, some are fighting, some are silent. I've heard through the grapevine that some folks have gone around the fence and shook their neighbors hand.
I've even heard that some have exchanged phone numbers or email address's or done somthing called pm.

And I also caught wind of something else going on,,, way down the waterway, some of my neighbors actually left their own dock and traveled a great distance and had a big party with each other, and now their friends for life.

So....just what's up with all of this strange stuff I keep seeing on my computer? Is it normal, regular or just kind of a strange dimension I entered when I stumbled across this place???

Just wondering.......

There is someting very primal about the water. It is the only place i know that i can let go of all things and get caught in childish day dreaming and or play. Unique i think not... just a common thread. I recently went on a big health kick just so i could ski again...felt like i was 16 yrs old that day and of course the next week was very bad....but im healed now..

Whatever forum you're on, people get together if they're there long enough. I've had BBQ's with guys from videogame forums, people get together and golf from this golf forum I go to, and I'm actually going fishing with a guy from another forum tonight that I've never met before. People like to ang out with people that have similar interests.

Boaters are different from your average transportation enthusiast. If our vehicle breaks down in the middle of nowhere it can be a life and death situation. The water demands respect and those who give respect will be survivors. Kinda like this forum, don't ya think? I think what keeps this forum so separate from the rest is the level of respect that the rules, moderators, and members demand from each other. The water is the same way. Respect it and use your intelligence and every thing will be OK.

There's many, many forums out there with endless "flame wars" with swearing and life threatening intimidation all over them....not here. It's not tolerated here. That's why I've stayed here and abandoned the rest of the forums. And that's why I can pull up to almost any boat on the water and be greeted as a friend. Try that in the parking lot of Walmart...."Hey, saw you guys here just talking...can I join in?" That gets you a much different reaction on water versus pavement.

This is just one of several forums that I go to, spend most of my time here as it is the BEST. I have one automotive forum and the rest are boating/fishing forums, there are people getting together on all of them. I am on a forum brand specific to my boat, they are putting together a gathering at the plant in Kentucky, if I could I would be going to that one. I think members of forums all do this since they are with people that have similar likes, you become friends quite often on the forum and have never met.
