I've surfed the web for rowing forums and they all focus on Olympic style rowing. Extremely competitive and performance oriented.

I'm a recreational rower. I row for exercise and the experience of rowing.

If you understand the rowing concept, you might enjoy this video I posted to YouTube yesterday.

I row my raft when I don't want it to bump into something, which is kinda rare. It's pretty bouncy. Welcome aboard, Don.

outboards inboards we all row at one time or another!!
:D No doubt!

When I'm at our family cottage (not as much now that I live so far away), I used to enjoy rowing one of our old fiberglass boats in the morning. In the quiet of the morning while the "critters" are gathering breakfast, it's some of the nicest sight seein' you could ask for.

Very Nice Video.
I especially enjoyed the Background Music.

It reinforced the reason I removed the Stereo from my boat.
I still do not understand why they are installed in the first place.

I've got a 10' dinghy I row periodically. It gets me to and from shore.

Re: Are there any rowers on this forum?

I recently became a rower. A bunch of us from work are rowing in the MR340 river race this July. MR340 is from Kansas City to St. Louis - 340 miles non-stop on the Missouri River. We have been doing 20 mile practice rows once a week after work down the Missouri. We are planning a 65 mile practice row from Hermann Missouri back to St. Louis soon. Pretty sure after July I won't be rowing for quite a while............ LOL FYI - we are using a 29 foot canoe with 12 people and normal oars. I am using two lawn chair seat cushions stacked up as part of my high-tech rowing equipment. Also have a nice pair of yard gloves to keep the blisters on the down low.

Is it a canoe or a rowboat? Normal oars and oarlocks? By the sound of your description, you will be disqualified before you start. Item 4 in the Rules.

4. Each race craft must be propelled exclusively by paddle power (double
or single blade) while on the water. No rowing configuration is permitted.
No sail or kite is permitted.

Perhaps I missed something, like maybe there is a separate rowing catagory with a different set of rules.

I've been rowing my 12-foot fiberglass ever since my 10hp mercury hit a series of rocks, sent the prop in the air and broke the throttle handle on the seat. My wife is trying to get me spend 1k on a new outboard but that just not going to happen.
I enjoy rowing across the river to out camping spot.. until I forget something and have to row all the way back to the car...

I grew up rowing recreationally and rowed competatively in college on Crew. Unfortunately I have not had the oportunity to do much rowing in my adult life. I do really enjoy it. You might try checking out the TSCA (Traditional Small Craft Association) to see if there is a chapter near you. You might also check out this thread on the same topic on the Woodenboat forum US Coastal Rowing Association?

We are good. It is a canoe. Paddles are typical oars. No locks. Bench seats
