Are there any deck boats with V drive?

Been looking at deck boats. Gotta say I love the features. But I also wouldn't mind to try wakesurfing which I know is a big no no with an I/O. I haven't seen any regular V drive ski boats with the features of a deck boat. Anyone know of a brand that combines the two? I'm sure it would start getting out of any reasonable price range but I would like to see a hybrid of the two. For example I was looking around on Ebay and saw an older Ebbtide 2400 Mystique ski boat. If it had a tower and V drive I'd be in heaven for the perfect boat (for my purposes of course).

A long time ago, Chris Craft made a straight inboard deck boat. I've seen one, once.

What is it about the Ebbtide that you like so much?

I'm not so much in love with the brand per se, just the options on it. I like the layout and functionality, I like the bathroom (for kids and the wife), seems like there is a place for everything without being too crowded and nothing on the regular ski boats I've seen are quite as functional with the way my mind see's it.

I'm getting errors on that MB website as well.

If I had that ebbtide mystique with a tower, V-drive, ballast system, perfect pass and a good sound system I think I would end my search .

What kind of budget do you have in mind?

Not in the $60 - $70k range, thats for sure but I'm sure I just eliminated anything. Seems like any of the V drive boats are ungodly expensive. Gotta find the boat then debate the budget. Its winter, research time first. Used is likely most reasonable route.

Yeah, they are expensive. I honestly can't figure out why, other than the fact people seem to be willing to pay it.

I'm struggling to think of anything that really meets your criteria, new, used or ungodly expensive.

People on here say if you wakesurf behind an I/O you risk serious injury from the propeller if you fall. Thats why they say to do it behind a inboard, because the propellor is up under the boat so if you fall there is nothing to get impelled on. There are some gnarly pictures of some hands getting caught up from doing it. not to say you can't do it and never have an accident but why risk it, right?

Its not just the "police" here, it is not safe to surf behind an I/O no matter who you ask. A proper surf wake will allow you to ride right up to the swim platform, and you need the prop well under (and not behind) the boat.

Go to OnlyInboards and do a search. It's a great database of listing. They are not usually deck boats but there are many with large bows. Keep in mind that an inboard usually has a removable swim platform and so a 22' will normally be a couple feet longer inside than a 22' I/O

With a big molded swimstep I think an I/O would be pretty similar from a safety standpoint. I'd look at both, and guarantee the ride will be better with most I/Os. A Chaparral 236 SSi would be very close to what you are looking for and they are very roomy, with lots of features. Have to go to the 255 for a head I think, but I would caution you to think that one through. Most people I know don't use them on day boats. Who wants to manage that ship? Towards the end of this video there is a good luck at the step underway:

2006 Chaparral 236 SSi River City Boat Sales - YouTube

Personally I want nothing to do with a V-drive unless I am a competition level wakeboarder. Slow, thirsty and can't get the prop up for shallows or the beach. Yes, maintenance is higher on an I/O.

Edit: Not a hater, just think they are specialized as opposed to mo betta at mo stuff.

very, very few I/O's are going to throw up a big enough wake for surfing, and if they do, its going to be breaking and rolling anyway.

And I definitely don't have a clue when it comes to that.

But isn't the wake on a dedicated ski/wakeboard boat mostly dependent on the ballast tanks?

I grew up slalom skiing behind an I/O and while we weren't competitive skiers, it seemed to work well.

I can't imagine that any boat with a "bathroom" is going to have an ideal wake.
