Are Starcraft Fiberglass boats any good?

I'm looking at a 98 Starcraft, and wondering where they rank? My Uncle has owned Starcraft Alum boats for years and loves them, but I don't know anything about their fiberglass boats.

Where would you rate them? I know they aren't Cobalts, but are they closer to Stingrays/Bayliners, or Four Winns/Ebbtide?

It's a boat and unless it's brand new and covered by a warranty it all comes down to how the boat was or wasn't maintained. The highest rated boats in the world can be turned into junk in short order through lack of care. My 2 cents.

hi bud......welcome to iboats.....

i want to add on the theme of the post above....

bayliner or cobalt chapperall or searay......it does not matter....

it depends on how the boat was cared for.

i have seen 50 year old boats in better shape than a 4 year old....

no such thing as a bad boat.......just a bad owner

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. I totally understand the idea that how a person has taken care of a boat is more important than its brand name, however, I was looking at where everyone would rate them against the comp if all boats were new. I also know that for me this is a 2-3 year boat. I figure at that time I will either know that boating isn't for me, or that I will upgrade to a newer better boat, so I'm also trying to consider potential resale as part of my decision.

I don't particularly like the ones from the 70's and 80's.
I looked at the newer ones back around '97 and 2002m, when we were boat shopping.

I think they are a step above Bayliner, not quite a Four Winns, of the same vintage.
I have not owned them, but did check them out pretty well.

Buying a used boat (or any major purchase) with your eye on resale value in the future, is misguided IMO.
First, no one can predict the used price market, just look how prices have dropped in the last 3 years.

Secondly, the boats with a higher resale value in 3 years, also have a higher resale value now, which means they will be costing you more to purchase now.

If you are buying new (boat, car, atv, etc), then the future resale value has a bit more of credence. The idea being that you minimize you depreciation, without having to pay a premium to purchase.
