Are My Tire Sizes Enough?

I've just gotten a 1985 Four Winns 19' Horizon. The trailer has some used almost worn out 14" tires on it (radial) with rusted chrome wheels and with the proper amount of air, they still look very low. The Horizon weighs about 2400 lbs with engine and all. This is a single axle trailer and is not the original trailer that came with the boat. It is a custom made boat trailer by a custom trailer mfr. My question:

Are these tires/wheels big enough to support the boat?
If not, can i go to 15" tires/rims?

The lug pattern is 5 at 4.5".

Anyone also have a recommendation for a really good tire if it stays 14"?

Thanks

You can go to 15's if; they will fit under the fenders with enough room for axle travel-up and down.

But don't go only by tire size. The tires have a weight rating (each) as well. If your tires have a rating of over 1200 lbs, then you should be ok. Of course any additional capacity of the load rating beyond the actual load (are you including the trailer weight?) should let them last longer. Check your local tire shop and tell them how much weight you're hauling. I assume you're talking about a single axle trailer.
