Hellow. New boater and new to the forum. I have a 1986 seagull by Seasprite. 19' tri-hull w/ a 140hp 3.8 OMC. I belive the slave selonoid for my starter is bad. Can I replace that with a regular car selonoid from the auto parts store? I live in Iowa and the marine stores are few and far between. Also when I lower my out drive it will not raise all the way back up. What little it does go up it travles real slow. Thanks in advance for any help.

The short answer to your interchange question is: NO! The car parts will fit, but they ARE NOT safe.<br /><br />Marine electrical components are "shielded" to not allow sparks to meet bilge (fuel) fumes.

Auto electrical parts DO NOT exchange with marine parts. Marine electrical parts are spark shielded to reduce chance of explosions.<br /><br />Check the fluid in you trim pump. If it is good, tilt your boat on the trailer and exercise the outdrive fully up and down to bleed any air from the system.

You should have a second button or trailering button that will allow you to trim the drive all the way. They are set up that way so you won't over trim whem running.

The internet can have any marine part delivered to your door overnight...........just cost a little more.

Electrical and fuel parts are NOT the same for cars and boats! End of question! They may look the same and, for the most part, perform the same. But if you have a few extra fuel fumes in the bilge and one of those car parts ignites them, you'll be saying "Why didn't I spend the extra couple of dollars?", right before you hit the moon.<br /><br />Chris...............

OMC never made a 140HP 3.8, they made a 170HP 3.8, but not in 1986. Find out what you have there before you go parts shopping.

Tag on the bow says 1986, It's a 3.8 v6, and I was told it was a 140 hp. I don't have a dyno handy to run it or I would know for sure, but thanks for the heads up.

Ok, this may belong in another section of the forum, but does anyone have a lead on the company Sea Sprite? If I could get a owners manuel for the boat it would probable help a lot. I tried the net but no such luck. Crecent City, Ill. is the city on the tag where the boat was made. Once again thanks for all the responses. I've been to other web sites where I thought I was the only one out there!
