Are all drain plugs the same?

Some of the blue plastic drain plugs are leaking. I probably just need the o-ring but I can't seem to find that available as a part. The whole blue plastic "wing-nut" drain plugs are available. I see them from 3 different manufacturers ranging in price from about $3 each to about $9 each. Sierra, Mallory, etc. Are they all the same? Can you just get the O-ring? Anybody know the size?

You can use a 1/2-13 bolt and an o-ring from the hardware store

Orings pretty much all fall under the category of "off the shelf"... it's a commodity and if you can design a part that uses a standard o ring for $0.002 in volume or make a custom mold tool to produce 5k pieces a year at @0.50, they will always use option 1... all that to say, it's almost certainly a standard oring

Never had a problem with the blue plastic. 13 years on, still nothing wrong with them, never leaked. Don't know what the fuss is about really.

The 'O' ring is a very standard 2-014.... (1/2"id x 1/16"cs)

Thanks for confirming that thickness dimension. I got some at the hardware store, trying to match by eye and that's exactly what they are. My eyes must be working.

Lucky you. I have eye surgery scheduled for June. Both eyes, new lenses (I have monocular triplopia in the left and monocular diplopia in the right)... Should be fun.
