AQ280 Exhaust Question

Don or whomever can answer for me, I have a question regarding the y pipe and my 280 transom shield.

On the y pipe, there are 3 holes; The main exhaust and 2 smaller, outside of the main exhaust.

My transom shield has the main exhaust, as well as one hole to starboard, but not one on the port side. The hole I have on the starboard side is currently plugged with a rubber cap.

I am getting a small leak at the connection of the y pipe and transom and am thinking it might be due to exhaust pushing against the transom without a relief port.

Could i be correct, and or should that plug be in place?

Thanks in advance.

Re: AQ280 Exhaust Question

a plastic cap is not going to seal it. The exhaust hook (I have always called them blubber valves) also seals between the exhaust Y and the transom shield.

Re: AQ280 Exhaust Question

Drive?Year/model/serial#s.I would think there isin't that much pressure at the exhaust to FORCE a leak.Cap/plug should be there.
The o-ring or the bolts or corrosion is usually the problem.J
