i have a aq270 outdrive and I acidently started the engine in the trailer up position does that do any damage. only ran it like 15 seconds

its not good for it.

pull the drive and check the u-joints

You have to service the u-joints anyway. Lots of people don't even know that.

Regardless, my uneducated opinion is that 15 seconds didn't destroy anything. We've all made that mistake once or twice.

pulling the drive (or at least pulling the transmission off the drive (see the stickies) is a once-a year maintenance issue. while you are inspecting the U-joints, you may want to also replace the bellows and check the PDS bearings

You can pull the upper gear box instead of pulliing the whole drive.
