AQ170 vacuum conection

I recently purchased a new to me 1982 Yukon Delta houseboat. I had it on the water yesterday for the first time. It runs and starts well but will not go above 2000 rpms without trying to die. I found a vacuum line from the distributor advance that is not attached to anything. I have looked over the intake manifold and the carburetors and cannot locate a vacuum source. What am I missing? Could that be my problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: AQ170 vacuum conection

If memory serves me right, I believe the rear most carbureator has a vacuum fitting on the underside of the top plate. After this many years, the carbs may have been moved around so you may need to remove the airbox to see if the top of one of the carbs has what looks like an extra hump. That should be the one with the vacuum fitting.

Once that's hooked up, you'll still need to checking the timing advance with a timing light.

If your distributor has a vaccum advance mechanism, you have an automotive distributor on it. You need to change to a marine one.

These were built in the 60's and early 70's before modern safety regulations. The manual for these engines discusses the vacuum advance.

Thanks for the advice. I have been told that there is no vacuum advance and that what I am seeing is just a vent. I will have to look in the distributor to check. I'll get back.

They (Volvo) stopped production on the AQ170C 6 cylinder inline engine in 1978.
