Ok, so I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone could give me some pointers. Last summer I bought an '85 Bayliner with the aq131a, I thought everything was good to go on it but was having trouble with carb so I took it to a local boat shop here in Huntsville, AL. Well it turns out the transom was rotton also. So the 'Boat Wrench' took a month to pull my engine, I had the transom fixed in less than a week and now its been over a month and they won't put the engine back in, I just keep getting the run around. Anyway, I can not wait any longer to get my boat back so I'm going down to pick it and the engine up this monday, and I plan on putting it all back together myself.

I'm a novice mechanic but I've never put an engine and outdrive into a boat before. For those that have done this, could you please give me any pointers or tips on doing this that I may not be aware of? Or maybe some references to look up?

Thanks in advance, I'm really looking forward to getting back out on the water. This is my first ski boat and its been in the shop since febuary, The mechanic has had it longer than I have. So help is much appreciated.

Has the cutout been made in the transom?
What outdrive do you have?

It's one thing when you take everything apart, you at least know what to expect on putting things back together. But for someone else to take it all apart, and you knowing nothing about any of it, it's going to be an uphill battle.

Re: AQ131A Install tips?

Thanks for the reply.
All the cutouts are there, the guy did a great job on the transom, and only charged me $900, he said he's done hundreds and it looks beautiful. Everything is ready to bolt back in. The outdive is the Penta 275. I was wondering about and alignment that needs to be done or seals that need to be replaced. I may try to find another mechanic to take it to, but these guys are just taking WAY too long and lots of BS... but I know what you mean about not seeing it come out, I'd just rather have the boat back in pieces than for it to sit there getting weathered collecting dust for the next month.
