I put a new timing belt, new pulleys, new engine water pump, cap/rotor/ plugs all that nonsense. Rebuilt the carb. Engine runs great. One question....when running on the hose at idle (500rpm) the water "surges" out the exhaust, it doesnt come out steadily. I used to have a merc V6 with an alpha outdrive and at idle it would come out steadily. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

At 500 rpm, you're probably lucky it pulls water clear up to the front of the motor at all. Idle speed for that engine is 900 rpm.
Your alpha had the raw water pump in the drive, just above the muffs.
