aq131 timing help

can any one explain where to place dizzy. i have put it facing no 1 piston runs ok out of water but backfires in the water. plus i can only get 20 degrees btdc before i run out of turning the dizzy. placed it one tooth counterclock wise and it runs pretty rough still cant get btdc below 15 degrees.idle set at 900 idle mixture screws 1 3/4 out on both sides. pentroix ignition red wire going to pos side of coil and black wire going to neg side of coil.is this correct way of wiring. motor is a 1986 aq131/275 with good compresion. running out of warm weather boating time please help.

You can reposition the distributor and rotor and continue adjusting it. Sound like your close. 6 deg BTDC is where you want to be.

Not sure about the Petronix hook up. Should have come with instructions, No?
