Hello all, I hope that you are having a great weekend on the lake!

While I was out on the lake today, we were motoring into our favorite swim cove (3/4 Throttle) when it sounded like someone stepped on a tin can. We stopped and looked around but didn?t see anything. This is a path that we have taken hundreds of times. Long story short, when we pulled the boat out of the water the propeller was all chewed up. I have spent the last couple of hours searching this site for the answer to my question and was unable to find it.

I have a 1983 Bayliner Capri 1950 BR. AQ125A with a 270 stern drive. Does anyone know the right propeller that I should get? I have looked an my prop and there are no numbers on it. Another thing is that I have started doing a ton of wakeboarding and have read around about 4 blade vs 2, pitch, and I just don?t know enough to make a decision or where to even start. If anyone could help point me in the right direction I would be extremely appreciative!!!

I also dont know if I have a long or short hub.

Thank you!

BTW, I am 6 foot 3 and 280. I can get out of the watter fine but if there is a prop that will give more "out of the hole" power I would like to know that as well.

Have you looked under the hub nut for a number? If its not too bad a prop shop can tell the size and repair it.

No, I havent taken it off yet. That will be this weekend. The prop is bad. I dont want to try to get it fixed due to the fact that they would shave it down and Im interested in getting the most out of my boat for wakeboarding and tubing, family fun. Plus I havent been able to find a prop shop. I have 3 large lakes around me and there is only 1 service area and its a father and son who started out as auto guys and decided to work on boats.

Re: AQ125A/270 Propeller

I just stumbled into this post. I've got virtually the same boat. I'll get the number off of my prop for you. I'm also looking for a replacement prop because mine is very dinged up and is slipping on the hub. I do know that it is a 14 x 19 R. I'll be pulling it out of the water today to check the prop and other maintenance and will get the number of the stock prop that is on my boat. Hope that will help.

Thanks, I would appreciate that! 14 x 19 fits with everything that I have been reading the past couple of days. I have found a 4 blade that claims to fit on the 270 so I am trying to see if that will work for me as well.

The part number on my prop is 814633. Seems these props are a little pricey and a bit scarce. Mine is in repairable shape. No one seems to stock them at a reasonable price. Comparable props for other boats are less than $90...these tend to run well over $100 even for a used one.

I second using the 14 x 19 prop.
I also use a 15 x 17, although all boat and load factors determine which is better.

Great boat/motor combination, great on gas mileage, but parts ain't cheap, anywhere.

Good luck!

we have the same boat I think, I just replaced mine with a 14/19 prop, cost was 236.00 from a local store, The cool thing he said slap it on and try it out if you don't like it just bring it back and he'll get me another one, Reason being he couldn't match the one I brought in. It was sprayed with antifauling paint and he couldn't pull any thing off of it. He did say if the new prop looked anything like my old one he couldn't do anything for me,

Yeah, We should have the same engine type. I have found a couple of online stores offering this prop for the same price that you bought it for. How is your new prop working for you?

Re: AQ125A/270 Propeller

can't really say, I'm haveing other issues right now, so I can't tell if the prop is ok or not, I know not much help, but when I bought the boat the guy gave me a repair manual in it he kept notes and repairs he made, I didn't know it at the time, but in the book I found a 14/19 prop written down, So I guess the prop I replaced is of the same size and pitch with out me knowing, before my issues it was working good, Up on plane good, at about 4000K rpms,
