Just picked up this beautiful 1957 Fastwin at the local meet today. Electric start with the harness, solenoid box, shift cables and controls, key switch, etc etc etc

Beautiful original. All for the low price of $160! Now to figure out what boat to put it on?

great find hightrim! nice clean looking motor. ( wish the sellers in this neck of the woods wouldnt be asking 3...4 hundred for motors that dont even come close to that one!....actually, some want a few hundred for seized motors.....because they are listed as antiques. example......cd 10.....ran 10 years ago....collectible antique motor....stuck but easily fixed....$350 firm)

Yeah she is nice and originial.

All the sellers on the local classifieds (kijiji and craigslist) also ask ridiculous prices for their motors. I think they watch too much Pawn Stars and Antique Hunters! The guys in the Antique Club are more reasonable and that is where I buy my motors.

I wonder how she will push my Peterborough, most of my motors are 35hp, I am use to the torque, not sure if the 18hp will work. May have to find another project boat this winter for it. The 58 35hp Super Quiet in the pic is one of my favourite motors other than my Javelin.

That's an 18hp Excellent motor. Looks exactly like one I had about 15 years ago, but mine wasn't factory electric starting, like yours is. You did great. A lot of guys at the AOMCI meets fortunately aren't looking to make a whole lot of money on their stuff. Usually, they're just looking to find a good home for it and out to help others. One of the best memberships a guy could ever have. :)
A think a nice boat to put that motor on would be a 14' Mirrocraft, or Klamath aluminum. They work nice on fiberglass and wood boats, but you'll quickly get bored with "pokin' along" real quick.

Re: AOMCI Meet Find

Well started the inspections. Compression is 120 on the top, 135 on the bottom. Little far apart for my liking, lets hope a little Deep Creep can even things out there.

No spark, popped the flywheel and we have original coils. Still a good buy. Will overhaul ignition, clean the carb, pull the water pump and see if I can get her running by dinner. Hopefully the wife stays out of my hair.

Awww come on Chris, those coils are just getting broke in. :D:D

That compression is pretty darned good, even if they are 15 pounds different. Even the lower number is better than a lot of those '57 18's are puting out. I think once you get 'er running, things will get better on the top one. Those 18's are tougher than shoe leather and very reliable. One of my favorite motors.

I actually dont mind finding cracked coils. Means that no ones has tinkered with it and it hasnt been run much in the last while. This old girl definately has low hours on her.

Re: AOMCI Meet Find

Oh yea, especially with that great of compression. I get 120 on both cylinders on my old 35 and that's with a rope start at 6 pulls. What you're getting is about the best I've seen on an 18. I seen a nice old '58 Johnson 18 on a guy's boat today. He was running it on a 14' Crestliner......hey there's another good idea for ya. :D
