Anyone Use Mercury Parts Express?

I've used this service a couple times. With the search by engine serial number and great diagrams and parts lists, it's easy to get the right part. But, this is the second time I've ordered through them using the same dealer in my area. The Parts Express website states:

"The factory-authorized Mercury Parts Express dealer, chosen by you, will ship your order to you by the shipping method you have selected. The dealer you selected will charge you the exact shipping amount."

Both times I've thought the shipping was a little high considering how close I am to the dealer. When I got the second order, I went to the UPS website and checked out a shipment from that zip code to mine, using the weight of the package on the UPS label, and the shipping cost I was charged was 31% higher than what UPS said it should be for those zip codes and that weight.

Anyone ever have this happen before or know what the deal is? Seems a little screwy to me.

I've used them quiet a bit. but if you don't have a dealer near to order from, that's the price you pay for home delivery. and it is probably what it cost for the seller to ship that product. it takes more labor to ship a package, than to seller it over the counter.

I used Mercury Parts Express. The dealer near me shipped at a very low cost and the package arrived in two days.
I guess it depends on distance, packing, etc.
I checked UPS one time out of curiosity to see what it would cost to send a package to myself. The UPS center is just down the road. It was twice the cost I would pay if I wanted to send the package to my sister's zip code. 400 miles away which was the same price I would pay if I wanted to send it to the town 30 miles away.

There is a site called ishopmarine.com that has all of the same mercury parts and diagrams, but they cost a bit less on this site. I've used it twice and I was happy with the service and I got genuine Quicksilver (Mercury) parts. They do hit you for shipping though, like most places online and it does take a little bit longer to ship them to you but the cost savings were enough for me. I've never ordered off of Mercury Parts Express so I really cannot compare shipping service.

I've used them a few times, the only problems that i've encountered other than the high shipping cost was the amount of time (3 weeks) that i had to wait for the parts to arrive. :(

A one lb or less package can cost as much as $9.50 to ship within the U.S. Most companies flat rate their shipping cost as a "worse case charge" to them. It may seem a little high, but there are additional costs involved as well.

Shipping involves a LOT more than dropping off a box. First they gotta buy a box, and packing material, tape, someone has to find the part, do the paper work, pack and wrap the box, label, and it takes gas to get it to the shipper...price of keeping a business in business

I agree with that. They don't just run down there basement and pick out an old box, tape it up and ship it. I ordered from Merc. Parts Express (A Manual) and it was here in 2 days for what I thought was a very fair price, including shipping. Now I have paid some rediculous shipping fees on Ebay for things I couldn't find elsewhere. Makes me madder than heck knowing I'm getting ripped one for outrageous shipping.

Yeah on the Ebay (I do old parts over the winter), and never stiffed anyone on shipping...sometimes I flat rate $9.99 ...seems everything I ship goes from the West Coast (WA)...to the lowest part of Florida!......might lose a few, so what....guy up Puget Sound wins, I dump a $5 dollar bill in the box...
What goes around, comes around, and every service counter, has two sides. 100% on Ebay feedback too, over 300 neat people served...

Yeah, I know there are other costs involved in shipping. I do a lot of selling on Ebay myself, and I do just run down into the basement and get an old box for shipping! In fact they used an old box to send my parts to me too!

That's not my issue, it just seems misleading for Mercury Parts Express to say outright that you'll be charged actual shipping cost, and when you go to the UPS website and price out a package using the exact info right from the UPS label, weight, zip codes etc., and there is such a discrepancy in the costs. 31% difference is significant.

There is a local dealer who handles Merc parts OTC, but they didn't have what I needed.

I don't rip off Ebay buyers on shipping. They can calculate exactly how much shipping will cost before bidding and know what they are agreeing to. Since I do add a small handling fee for each shipment to cover supplies and overhead, I would never say "exact shipping costs" in the auction.

Exact shipping cost here involve I would think the shippers total cost is, which includes more than just what UPS wants. If they are like IBoats, you have a choice of shipping, and its stated what it will cost you. But the trouble here is shipping anything is a little out of hand lately...
