I'm just curious if anyone has water skied behind a Hurricane 202 I/O 4.3 L engine. What was it like? Did it drag you bad getting up? Or was it reasonable?

We are trying to figure out how comparable it would be to our Bayliner 1950 Capri with a 3.0L at 135 hp. That was acceptable for us--certainly not a ski boat, but it worked when we wanted to. Our capri weighed 2300 pounds (dry?) approximately. This hurricane weighs 4100 wet.

We are hesitant to go up to a 5.0...more than we need. We don't need top speed at all--just want to enjoy water sports once and a while.

Thanks!

If you're used to a 1950 Capri with a 3.0L I see no reason you'd find the 4.3L on the 202 inadequate. You didn't mention if you're purchasing new. If so, the 4.3L MPI in that boat is 220 HP. In addition, although the dry weight is another 1400lbs (202 is around 3700 dry) I suspect you shouldn't have any real issues to ski behind. I do it with ease with a 188 OB (similar hull design/size) with a 200HP engine. If you load the boat with full weight/people, it maybe slow to go, but otherwise that boat, that engine shouldn't be a problem.

You also mentioned top speed wasn't a need, then I suggest you get it prop'd with a 4-5 blade prop. Gives you better low end for pulling and get you on plane easier. (The skier will love you for it)

Hope this helps.
