Anyone know what this is mounted above my dashboard??

I recently bought a 1950s Crestflight boat and was cleaning it up today. This is mounted above the dashboard. Would anyone know what used to be attached to it??

It does not look original to the boat but I thought that I would double check first. The screws are rusted and chrome has the usual pitting.

Is there any wire(s) running to it underneath? Could be an antenna mount.

Antenna or flag mount would be my guess.
