Anyone know what this is called? Tow chain?

It is 20 foot long and very heavy. I found it on the side of the road almost in the ditch in the town I moved from a few months ago. After a week it was still there so I took it home.

Could have belonged to one of the many towing companies in that area or fallen off a semi, I figure.

Can anyone tell me the proper name of this chain? I'd like to take a shot at selling it on Craig's List for a few bucks.

It is called a log chain here.
The chain size is determined by the thinkness of the metal on a link. Like 3/8" chain will measure 3/8" on the link.

Many truckers use the chain to secure loads on the trailer.

Around these parts they are used on the flatbed tow trucks hooks into the bed and thru the car or truck to keep it from going forward or backward or left or right

"I have for sale a 20' x/y chain with a grab hook on either end. Can be used on a roll-back, boat deck, log dragging, or to secure your mother in law to her chair. However, slip-hooks would probably be better for log-dragging. Not suitable for large mothers in law."

Wow what a score. I would hang on to it as those chains are not cheep. But come in real handy when needed. You can use it for so many things from a tow chain to a tie down to a good lifting chain. Sell it and I would think your crazy.

Just my two cents

I have too much stuff.

Price is $15. I am in Michigan, though.

That is a good price for that chain. Also the links are anodized which is a nice touch, they are much nicer to handle and do not get rust all over everything.Nice find!!Ron G
