Anyone know the difference between a Nissan NS70A2 and an Tohatsu M70A

Are these motors completely different or would their lower units be interchangeable?

Yes, the LU's interchange. All Nissans are built by Tohatsu. The A vs A2 is a super-minor revision.

Piston rings. The A had 2 and the A2 had 3. I don't think it made any difference, but the Japanese thought it was a big deal at the time:)
