Hard to believe they don't make quick plug in for a 2000 model..
I would check some other auto parts stores..
If not its easy to wire one with a simple 12v test light.

if you got independant turn signals you will need a converter.

i believe the set up is the same as the escape and the mariner. i just unsrewed both taillight assemblies, let them hang. figured out which wire went to what, use quick a splice. you have to run your ground to one of the ground wires on the assembly, as they are not grounded to the body. I also always run an independent ground wire to all my trailer fixtures, as grounding is the major problem on trailer lights.

hi guys,
i just checked my turn signals and they are independant. the brake light and turn signal are not same bulb. does this mean i cannot use the regular 4 wire hookup or do i have to get converter.

Whisker - if the turn signal and brake light are separate lamps you need a converter.

have you checked with the ford dealer? they have to have one as they put out explorers with the towing packages.

There should be a small gray plug under the back bumper on the driver's side - and the harness that plugs into it is about $14 - got mine from etrailer.com
