That says it all. I thought I'd start here & am doing some local research too. I will be needing to scrap my 96 Lumina soon, I had another thread about it not passing NY inspection, and it didn't! :D

Around me (SW Ohio) you'd get around $250/ton.

$200 a ton here. Cut the catalitic converter out and bring that in separate. That thing is worth the price you will get for the car alone.

Thanks, now I have to make some calls. Can't really remove the cat. converter because I plan to drive the car wherever I take it, & since the inspection's expired, I don't want to call attention to myself! Would love to sell it separately though.

$230 A ton here in Colorado, ask how much for the cat on it as that is worth money too they may want it off, I could go on and on strip the Copper wiring thats worth number 2 insulated $1.15lb, the battery is 15 cents a lb, problem is if you don't strip these items off the car your likely to only get the scrap steel price

Leave the car sit near where the scrap yard is and let the exaust cools down good. Pull up on high curb and climb under with a hack saw.

Wow, no need to scrap the car, the dealer must have been desperate to hook me on the car we ended up buying. They gave me $895 for the Lumina. Sales must be slow. I was hoping to scrap it for $200+.

And it's now on a car carrier headed for an auction in another state! :D

And they inflated the sale price of the vehicle you bought by $700 to cover it. ;)

Yep. We're satisfied, the price we paid is within the various book values and local price ranges. Probably an average deal. Most likely, the original marked price was inflated. I think I did pretty well on it, that 96 is no good, not worth the repairs to make it pass NY emissions inspection. It's got valve problems. Dang it, just put new tires on it this winter though!! I got them to throw in flush & fill on the coolant and transmission and a new visor on the passenger's side.

There were a lot of salespeople sitting around the times I was there.

I seem to do this EVERY FRIGGIN' TIME  It's much more fun to trade in a car with 4 bald tires and a dead battery :p

Yeah, the battery's shot, valves are bad, rocker panels are rusted away, undercarriage is so rusty you can't use the jack without poking holes in it. I've been using a supplemental piece of 2x6 with the jack :D. Clear coat is coming off. I'm not too concerned that they will make much of any money on that vehicle. As I've said before, when I'm done with a car, nobody wants it.
