Anyone here using Boyesen reeds?

I was thinking about replacing my reeds with an aftermarket type, probably Boyesen's. Has anybody here used them? Or is using them? and do they really help it run better, and increase power? I have heard because they are non-metallic, they are more fragile then stock reeds, is this something to be concerned about?

I have used them with a postive result....Postive result being a slight improvement in WOT. I wouldn't go to the trouble again based on the minor increase.

Ran 'em / sold 'em for years. Depends on what motor but on most stock recreational motors I'd sure change them if I had the carbs off anyway. Not that big of a deal to go ahead and pull the manifold. On a performance motor, if it were mine it'd never get wet without Boyesens.

I rebuilt a V4 Rude with them on it. It ran well and seemed to have lots of power but I had no base line to compare them to. I must say though that I was unimpressed by the look of them. It's a lot of money for plastic. Boyeson also states that it may be necessary to go one jet size richer in the carbs.

Re: Anyone here using Boyesen reeds?

Many thanks for the help gents, I am planning on trying them, but at this time I still have issues with my motor that I thought would be resolved by now. I have an 89' Force 125 that only reaches 4500rpm WOT, and 1/2 the time stalls going into gear. I've about run out of ideas, and things to try at this time. For all I know it maybe the original reeds that are the problem, but I haven't gotten that deep in the motor yet, to find out.

I take it that you have done the carbs NOT just spraying them out I mean rebuild kit and soak them. Then check fuel lines and filter maybee even the water seperator. Just some ideas

Yes thanks, the carbs are squeaky clean, filter is good, I don't have a water seperator? it's an outboard. Everything possible was checked, set, or replaced. My next move is to check the antisiphon valve, & tank filter, first chance I get.

I have Boyseen reeds on my Evinrude 25hp twin, found slight gains at WOT, however I noticed a huge improvment at idle, now I can troll all day without stalling, and smooth down to 500 rpm. With the stock reeds it would spit, sputter, and stall at about 650 rpm.
