Anyone here have Thyroid problem?

I found out yesterday that a lot of the problems I have been having lately are due to an under-active thyroid. Problems like difficulty typing, playing guitar, constant fatigue and other blood cholesterol issues.

i have been so tired this summer I have not done hardly any projects around the house. Today is the first full day on the thyroid medication and for the first time in about 3 months I didn't come home from work totally exhausted and take a nap.

Anyone else have an under-actve thyroid? How does it affect you?

I know this isn't anywhere near what you are dealing with, but my physician thought I had an OVERACTIVE thyroid a while back. I had to do the radiation test with the pill, etc -- but turns out I was actually ok (thankfully).

I know my symptoms were that I was too skinny and I had problems with my eye twitching. Turns out, I am just skinny and I was drinking too much caffeine.

My 22 y/o daughter has an underactive thryroid. She takes the perscribed medication and is one of the most physically active people around her.

The wife's been taking synthroid for couple years now...tough diagnosis...it was the doc she saw for depression eventually diagnosed it. Sharp guy...stead of just pushing antidepressants, went looking for a cause.

Regulating the dosage took some time...but once you get it right you'll be back to normal. If you feel it's not exactly right, keep after the docs to change it...no need feeling bad for no good reason...not when there's so many good reasons to 8)

I've been taking Synthroid too; this is to supply my body with the Thyroid hormone since my Thyroid gland had been removed couple of years ago. You're right jtexas, my doctor is constantly monitoring the level with blood test every 3 to 6 months; and adjust the Synthroid dosis accordingly.
Like Mark42, I too felt tired after work, and needing some rest or taking a nap; but maybe this is due to my senior age....d

Yes they have to run a special panel on them i think my wifes been going threw all these also but her thyroid levels are alright for now .from my understand theres alot of other direct things associated with it to.
And mark are you taking some aspirin also with your cholostrial it helps thin the blood to keep from getting clots and helps the heart.keep an eye on that.

That is what they told me first, that I was just depressed. I told them I wanted a Lyme disease test because I was always tired and I live in a high Lyme area. All my neighbors have been treated for Lyme sometime over the last 3 years or so. So they included the thyroid and a few other tests too.

I had to tell them point blank to knock off pushing the depression B/S and take the damn blood test or I was going somewhere else.

They were a tad embarressed with the results and have been very attentive since.

BTW, the trigliceride problems I have been being treated for are a symptom of under active thyroid. So fixing the thyroid should fix the trigliceride issue too.

That explains why taking trigliceride medicine for the last 6 months has not made an impact on trigliceride levels.

I should have brought up the fatigue issue months ago.

Early signs are:

- Tired. Always tired.
- Coldness in hands.
- More sensitive to cool temperatures in general. A/C may seem colder to you than to others in the same room.
- Unexplained weight gain.

I'm 47 and in good physical shape and it happed to me for no apparent reason.

Join the club. Everyone I know has your problem, to name a few: me, my wife, both daughters, grandson, my wife's sister, etc. Same symptoms you describe. Same treatment (except, for me, Levothroid instead of Synthroid). It is the new pop ailment like Hypoglycemia was a few years ago. I had that, too.

I found out I was hypothyroid a few years back during a routine physical. I had no symptoms, it was just found with a blood test. I was encouraged to start taking meds even though I had no symptoms because it can get much worse if you just let it go. So.... a pill a day for the rest of my life.

I have the same symtoms, but found out I have atrial fibration. it just makes you tired all the time. you would think that it would be easy to find, but it comes and goes, I might not have it when I go into the doctors office and get the check in, and have it on the way out.
Fortunately a doctor picked it up and jumped on it and so we are doing something about it, but no cure. life sucks at the moment.
