Not Ivory but Zote Soap, usually found at the places like Fiesta food stores in the south. Usually used on trotlines and jug fishing. The soap is pink in colour, and used in latin america as laundry soam. Main ingredient is lard. Lots of different soap reciepies out there for catfish bait soap. First time I ran across it was in the late 60s, back then it was P&G soap, havent seen that in years. Not a good bait for big catfish, but a fair bait for 1 to 3# channel cats.

check this! fishing one of those boca raton- hoods at lunch . tossing bread to pan fish . my sandwich was gone so i tossed out one of those dill pickles and damn a 4# bass ate it . maybe the locals feed the fish . jewish pickles?

The best bait for cats Ive ever used was some salt water blood worms.

Chicken liver is also good for catching catfish. I have used chicken liver myself. I have heard of a method of using panty liners or hose to wrap the liver in, this keeps the bait on the hook longer and makes it harder for the fish to suck it off of the hook. I don't think you'll catch me in the store buying any panty hose though .

Never heard of using soap myself, poor catfish would be burping up and blowing bubbles .
