I am a current and long time Dish Network customer but my bill is getting outrageous. (200 channels, DVR & 4 TV's - $94.00/mo - My DVR took a crap and I wanted to get the new "hopper & joeys but they said that if 3 people were watching different channels that it would not record, So then they said 2 hoppers & 2 joeys so you could watch/record 6 things. This is $102.00/month.

I got looking on Direct TV's site and I can get 205 channels with the genie (5 channels or recordings at once) running 4 tv's for $39.99/mo for the first year and $60.99/mo for the second year.

Have a few questions.

Are the remotes infra red or UHF? (I need to go through a wall so UHF would be great)

Any issues with your system?

Everything looks great on paper and in talking with them it sounds good, Just would like some real world input before I pull the trigger.

BTW - I tried working with Dish on the monthly bill and they would not budge much, Got them down to $93.00/mo for 10 months and then it goes to full price. I told them I was looking at Direct's website and wanted to know why I should stay and they really couldn't answer it.

I am a long time dish customer, I work in the oilfield and am away from home seven days we have direct tv at the bunkhouse. Personally I am not impressed with it I prefer dish. They continue to drop channels seams like every week I go back to work we have less channels, I will say that it may be the company is cutting back but don't think so we have every movie channel available. Jmo but I prefer dish!

Re: Anyone have Direct TV?

We have Dish TV with 3 TV's. Included is a Hopper DVR with two Joeys and the 250 channel package. We have no Premium movie channels. All stations are HD capable even though we only have one TV that is. There are never more than two TV's working at one time and even that is seldom. We are paying $77.00 mo.

We are coming up on the termination of the first years introductory price. Our bill, with all of the above, will go up to $110.00 mo. Every thing works real well and the images on the non HD Tv's are much better than they were on Cable but we are, just now, looking for ways to cut back.

I have had DTV for about 10 years. I don't like their charges, but: Three of my children, after spending even as little as one day watching my DTV, have switched from Dish to DTV. Can you guess why??

Re: Anyone have Direct TV?

I have Direct TV at my lake house. I went with Direct because the house gets closed up for the winter and Direct TV allows me to "suspend" my service for 6 months a year. While suspended, there is $0.00 charge. Dish would also allow me to suspend the service but there would still be a monthly charge. This was their policy when I switched from cable to satellite some 6 years or so ago. I am not sure if they still do this. I have never had any issues with Direct TV. I have only had one interaction with their service dept. when I switched to a HD service with DVR several years ago. I found them to be pleasant and very quick to respond. I have not noticed them ever dropping channels from my line up. If they did, it was channels I never watched. I am extremely satisfied with Direct TV and therefore have no reason to look elsewhere. I'm a firm believer in "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". On the other hand, I also believe one screw up could be forgiven, several could indicate pattern that would make me switch in a heart beat.

I thought your thread was about the TV itself, not the provider.

Please read all the fine print on the offer. Either you or I mis-read it. I believe their is an extra receiver charge for each TV to make their genie thingee work.

Re: Anyone have Direct TV?

I got rid of dish and got Directv. I hated Dish and their customer service. There are things I don't like about Dircetv too but Dish is way worse in my opinion.

The remotes can be setup as either IR or RF. I have one of mine setup that way so it can control my receiver through a wall.

Partial jack, my receivers (2) with Directv are under the TV's. Why do you guys need to shoot through walls?

My TV is mounted to the wall and and all the equipment is behind in a closet. That way, no cables show.
