I have been looking mostly at Yamahas, Johnsons, and Mercs for a kicker motor lately but ran across Tohatsus online for very cheap and a lot lighter than the others. They were the same price as the others are at dealers, but a lot cheaper online. Anyways, just wondering if anyone has the 9.8 4 stroke model, and if so, what do you think about it? Is it a good trolling motor, nice quiet smooth idle? I was mostly looking at 2 strokes because of weight, but 80 pounds is not bad and it seems like most people favor a 4 stroke for trolling in these forums. How can they make it 30 pounds lighter than a Merc? I normally don't like to buy something in the first year of production (such as this 9.8 4) in case some bugs need to be worked out, but I don't know if that should be a concern or not. Anyways, just would like to hear some feedback on this motor. And is this and the Nissan identical? This seems like such a good deal, something has to be wrong! By the way, I live in a big city and there are at least 3 service centers/dealers nearby. Thank you.
